Workshop Weekend with Ghee Prada
RECAP: WEEKEND WITH GHEE
In October 2018, we hosted Ghee Prada in Copenhagen for two days of workshops about connection, movement and the origins of Brazilian Zouk as a dance and also as a music genre. Although his career as a dance instructor has just started, we could see his twelve years of experience in his teachings and method. We learned not only the technical elements of Brazilian Zouk, but we could also experience and feel a little bit of the culture behind it.
It is safe to say that we all had a good time and also learned along the way! Brazilian Zouk is not just a dance or a set of moves and patterns. It is much more. It is body, mind and soul. It is joy and one of the most amazing opportunities to interact with people and by doing so, we also find out a lot about ourselves. Our limitations come to the surface almost immediately, and we are presented with a rare chance of looking and dealing with them in a way that brings joy. We could feel and see that during the week, as we tried to move our hips, legs and knees all at the same time on the bum-tic-tic-bum.
Let us not let Ghee’s workshops fade away in our minds and body and keep remembering that Brazilian Zouk is a dance that carries important cultural aspects: closeness, openness and groundness. It is before and most of all a social dance, not meant to be seen, but to be felt between lead and follow. Let’s keep looking and smiling at each other while we dance. Forget a little about the technique sometimes and not get angry when we do something “wrong”. We dance to feel, connect, get out of the muggle world and join a place where we can actually be ourselves.
Brazilian Zouk in Denmark is on its journey to greatness and our weekend with Ghee gave us a boost to build something based on the real feeling of the dance!
